Supreme

Since the passing of beloved bassist, Wayman Tisdale, in 2009, his identifiable 5 string bass sound  has been passed on down to Kansas City’s Julian Vaughn.  This is his 4th album featuring his heavenly bass.  It kicks off with saxophonist Darren Rahn hooking up on 'Flashback Friday', a song taking us back to 70’s disco and its fascination with dancing and just having a good time.  The song's funky rhythms and its "call and response" between Julian's bass and Darren's sax succeed in recreating a moment from that enjoyable era.  England’s hottest export - keyboardist Oli Silk - guests on the flawless ‘Strut’ where his loose and melodic "Bob James style" of keyboard playing melds nicely with Julian's bass and guitar.   ‘On Notice’ is a cool, late night track, one of my faves off this album, sure to please any fan of romantic slow jams! To achieve this, Vaughn beautifully blends his smooth basslines with the discerning licks of Donald Hayes' sax, (Robin Thicke, Eric Benet, Marcus Miller).  ‘Afternoon Delight’ conjures up a drive to remember, with you behind the wheel of a sleek automobile enjoying the curves ahead with Julian's pumpin' bass and Elan Trotman’s saxolicious grooves.  This is an album that complements any mood you're in - whether you're engaging in a workout or making a splendid meal.  It serves up smooth tunes for a simpler life.  A life of supremes! Enjoy.’
