It's A Snow Globe World
Her voice is unmistakable. Her style is as unique as a snowflake. And this year Molly Johnson brings her signature soulful swagger to a holiday collection as special as she is.
Kicking things off with "Don't You Know It's Christmas," we delightfully discover the snow globe connection (just like a Hallmark movie, right?). "Painted Blue" grooves with a bluesy approach not often heard in seasonal fare; different, daring and delicious. And Miss Johnson brings on even more bluesy swagger with "I Don't Like Christmas (When You're Not Around) - reminiscent of the classic "Please Come Home For Christmas," complete with groovin' guitar and piano solos.
Molly covers "Winter Wonderland" with a joyful and funky jubilance. Her take on "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve" is as smooth as eggnog. But my absolute favourite is "Christmas in Hopetown". That raw yet rich voice, slowing things down with such a poignant sentimentality, it renders this song (at least to me) an instant classic.
If you're a bit tired of Christmas collections that sound the same, I highly recommend Molly's new album. So much great new music, a few old chestnuts and that unmistakable voice. Santa will be pleased.
Merry Christmas!
